Lilongwe Spikers was formed in 1998. Individual players for Silver Strikers Volleyball team formed the Lilongwe Spikers after disbandment of the team following the withdrawal of sponsorship by Reserve Bank of Malawi. During this time, popularity of our sport went down and Lilongwe Spikers played a great role of revamping of popularity of volleyball in Malawi by securing sponsorship and construction of courts at Community and taking part in invitation tournament in Tanzania. All along the team has survived through individual player’s financial contributions.
A team that took part in zone six in Zimbabwe in 1990. won bronze medals. Paul Malange, then a captain now a coach for Lilongwe Spikers
